York, Messiah beat highly ranked ODAC teams

Penn State Behrend senior Brian Bohman surpased 200 career hits Wednesday afternoon as the Penn State Behrend Lions team swept D'Youville 17-4 and 11-2. Bohman came in to game one just four hits away from the career milestone, but a 4-for-4 performance in game one sealed the deal. after hitting a single, double, and home run, Bohman legged out an infield single in the top of the seventh for number 200. The Lions hit eight home runs over the course of the day, including six in game one.

York opened it's nine game final stretch of the season with a 5-0 win over #14 Randolph-Macon on an overcast afternoon in York. Junior Joel Kenney picked up his third win of the year as he threw 6.2 innings of shutout baseball against one of the best offensive clubs in Division III baseball.

Quinton Kuntz went six strong innings and Colin Fry provided a clutch two-out, two-RBI single as Messiah knocked off the number one team in the country, Shenandoah, 4-1. This marks the first time in program history that Messiah baseball has beaten a team ranked No. 1 in the country, with the highest-ranked opponent they had defeated before today was No. 6 Christopher Newport in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. It was a well-pitched game throughout by both teams, as Kuntz went six innings and gave up just the one run on five hits while walking three and striking out four Ethan Hess and Drew Betz combined to throw the last three innings without allowing a hit. On the other side, Shenandoah starter Michael Bugonowicz was also impressive, going 7.2 innings with seven hits, four runs (three earned), and nine strikeouts.

The Allegheny Gators scored nine runs over the first three innings and never looked back, defeating #23 Mount Union 11-4 at a sun-splashed Robertson Athletic Complex. Cullen Flaherty had three hits, including a two-run home run and a double, and drove in a career-high five RBIs while Ethan Pawlak and Andrew Dawson also added three hits apiece. The Gators out-hit the Purple Raiders 13-10 in the victory, while Allegheny starter Joe Nagel brushed off a shaky first inning to throw five strong frames and improve to 2-2 on the year.

Sophomore pinch hitter Philip Wells hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to lead Baldwin Wallace to a 6-5 non-conference victory against No. 5-nationally ranked Wooster on Fisher Field. BW, who has broke the 20-win mark for the sixth straight season, scored six runs on 12 hits. The Yellow Jackets scored off a solo homerun by senior designated hitter Cole Nieto, four in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5 off back-to-back homers by senior first baseman Kevin Hagen and freshman second baseman Jacob Bonner and the walk off single in the ninth to win it. Wooster scored two runs in the first inning and one run in the second, fourth and sixth innings.

Junior catcher Kevin Nolan showed off his defensive prowess and sophomore infielder Ian McIntosh blasted a grand slam to lead Scranton to a 15-4 win over Penn State-Abington at Connell Park. Nolan threw out three would-be base stealers and picked off two other base runners, both with ease, to lead the Royals to their fourth victory in their last five non-conference games. All five impressive throws came with the game still in doubt. Any doubt exited the ballpark when McIntosh launched his grand slam as part of a five-run seventh inning that put Scranton ahead, 14-4. The long home run to left field was McIntosh's second in the last three games, having also hit a solo home run on Sunday at PNC Field against Drew.

Grove City took advantage of Thomas More errors to score seven two-out runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 5-0 deficit and rally for a 7-5 upset victory over the Saints in a single, nine-inning Presidents' Athletic Conference game at Thomas More Field. Junior center fielder Tyler Graham and sophomore third baseman Micah Burke each had two hits on the day for the Wolverines while each of the other seven Grove City starters recorded one hit. Meanwhile, sophomore pitcher John Bini overcame a rocky start to pitch six strong innings and improve to 5-1 on the year, and freshman Austin Wacker threw three shutout innings of relief to earn his second collegiate save.

New Jersey City added two more impressive road wins to its ever-growing 2017 resume. Freshman left fielder Bill Feehan smashed his first career home run and walked five times and  junior first baseman Dan Berardi homered in game two while closing within one hit of 100 as the Gothic Knights swept Skyline Conference wins leader St. Joseph’s College (LI), 8-3 and 6-3, in a non-conference doubleheader.

After taking the field for the first time in over a week, Frostburg State played to a doubleheader split against Mount Aloysius at Bob Wells Field. Frostburg notched a 10-1 victory in game one, while Mt. Aloysius earned an 8-6 win in the nightcap.  Junior starter Greg Schneider struckout a career-best 15 batters and surrendered just one earned run for his fourth win of the spring campaign. Schneider opened his impressive game-one outing by striking out the side in the first inning and he fittingly closed the contest by striking out all three batters in the top of the seventh.

Rochester Tech extended its school record winning streak to 14 games in defeating Brockport in 10 innings in game one of a doubleheader, before having the streak come to an end with a 5-1 loss in game two at the Clark V. Whited Complex on Wednesday afternoon.  The Tigers rallied from down 5-2 in game one, coming out on top, 7-6, in 10 innings to push the winning streak to 14 games. Brockport leads the all-time series between the two schools, 67-54. The Tigers out-scored their opponents, 121-36 over the 14-game winning streak, longest in program history.

UW-Oshkosh scored four runs in the first inning and held on for a 5-3 victory over Ripon at Tiedemann Field. UW-Oshkosh, which has won the last four meetings with the Red Hawks by a combined 40-7 score, improves its record to 18-13 while Ripon falls to 8-22. The Titans also defeated the Red Hawks, 14-2, on April 11 in Ripon. Titans designated hitter Zack Radde provided the eventual game-winning hit in the home half of the first inning with a two-out, three-run double that increased the UW-Oshkosh advantage to 4-0.

Keystone overcame four errors and six unearned runs to defeat visiting  Wilkes 11-6 in a non-conference tilt at Christy Mathewson Field. Anthony Ferrezza, Brendan Long, Adam Kelly, and Austin Chaszar had three hits apiece for the Giants, who outhit the Colonels by a 14-10 margin on the day. The Giants, who have now won 10 of their last 11 games.

Loras salvaged a split against Buena Vista, dropping game one, 3-1, before taking game two, 6-2. Junior Aidan Wojciehowski locked down the victory in the night cap, throwing three innings of relief, while striking out six to earn his first save of the season.

Graduate student Anthony Capuano snapped a 3-3 stalemate with a 2-RBI single and junior Evan Lacroix, who batted 3-for-4, followed with another run producing single in the seventh to lead WPI past Johnson & Wales, 6-3, in a non-conference matchup at the New England Baseball Complex. The Engineers wrap up the regular season and NEBC slate with a 25-10 ledger while the Wildcats slip to 17-15.

Husson walked-off with a 6-5 win in the bottom of the 9th over Bowdoin on a rainy Wednesday evening at Husson. Sam Huston drove home the game winning runs. In the bottom of the 9th inning, Husson trailed 5-4. Cam Archer, Mike Wong, and Ryan Rebar all reached base due to free passes handed out by the Bowdoin bullpen. On a 2-2 pitch, Sam Huston barrelled up a fastball that one-hopped the left field fence. Archer and Wong crossed home plate

Ithaca erupted for season-bests in runs scored and hits, as the Bombers routed SUNY Oneonta, 19-3, on 22 hits at the Red Dragon Baseball Field. The Bombers nearly matched their season-high for runs (14) in the first inning, as they scored 13 times on 11 hits.  After a lead-off groundout, the next 11 Bombers reached base to account for 10 runs.  The final three runs of the frame crossed home on a double by sophomore Bailey and a two-run base hit from sophomore Adam Gallagher.

Lynchburg defeated Roanoke 4-3 behind a strong pitching performance from sophomore Ryan Irby and two home runs from senior Will Hylton. Irby came into a long relief role to pitch the final 7.2 innings only allowing five hits while earning his second victory of the season

Both junior Chris Moran and sophomore Justin Ganca blasted home runs to lift the SUNY New Paltz past visiting Vassar 4-3. The game was also headlined by the return of Vassar's first-year head coach Matt Righter, who led the Hawks from 2014-16. With the win, the Hawks improve to 16-14 and will head to Brockport this weekend for the regular season SUNYAC series finale with a chance to clinch a playoff berth for the first time since 2013. The Brewers, meanwhile, fall to 13-15 and will play Bard this weekend in a four-game set.
