Behind Ryan Howell's career-high 8.0 innings of shutout work, Fontbonne earned a 9-0 shutout win over St. Scholastica on Saturday. Howell tossed 8.0 innings of shutout ball, allowing five hits, and striking out five .Gus Purschke led at the leadoff spot going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a season-high three RBI.

Mount Aloysius opened up the road portion of their 2020 schedule, when they traveled to Stevenson to take on the Mustangs. Pitching was the difference for the Mounties, as they only used two pitchers in total, for the doubleheader, and gave up just three runs. They were able to sweep the Mustangs 3-1 and 5-3, on their home turf. Dylan Coyle and Michael McCourt stifled the Mustang hitters throughout the day. Through 14.0 IP combined, they allowed two earned runs. They were both efficient, staying under the 100-pitch mark, with Coyle throwing 94 and McCourt ending his day with 77. Coyle is now 2-0, earning the win in both of his starts this season. Through the first four games, the Mount Aloysius pitching staff has only allowed seven earned runs in 28 innings pitched.

Suffolk began its 10-game Spring Break trip in the win column as the Rams downed Dickinson, 7-5, to open the doubleheader with the Red Devils at Chain of Lakes Field. In game two, Suffolk took the lead in the top of the seventh, but back-to-back hit by pitches came back to cost The Rams as a two-RBI single allowed Dickinson to walk off with a 4-3 victory over the blue-and-gold in game two of a twinbill at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Saturday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Field.

Baruch posted a pair of shutouts and totaled 29 hits to take a doubleheader from Finlandia in Fort Myers, Florida. In the morning contest, Robert Raman went the distance on the mound for the 14-0 shutout with seven innings pitched, four hits allowed, nine strikeouts and no walks in a solid start. In the second game, Benjamin Akerman earned his second win of the season by pitching six scoreless innings with six hits allowed, eight strikeouts and only one walk. Nicholas Rowe pitched a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout for the 15-0 win.

Middlebury opened its season with a pair of games in Texas at Southwestern (5-5). The Panthers (1-1) fell 3-2 in game one, before taking the nightcap by a score of 8-4. The two teams will go at it again on Sunday. Austin Smith (1-1) earned the win, striking out 10 over five innings of work, while allowing no hits. Four different players had hits for the Pirates, with a double from Preston Witt. Alex Price (1-0) picked up the win for the Panthers, allowing two runs and four hits with seven strikeouts over five innings of work. Alec Ritch allowed a run in two innings. Woodring finished the game 2-5 with a grand slam and five RBI, while Jake Dianno went 2-5. Gough and Collins also homered for Middlebury.

Bret Leiferman went 5-for-10, recording three home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored over two games, leading the Concordia Texas baseball team to a doubleheader sweep and a series win against East Texas Baptist. In the first game of the afternoon, the Tornados rallied from an early-inning deficit, exploding for 13 runs on 17 hits, cruising to a 13-1 win. In the series finale, Leiferman had another three-RBI game, including the go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning as the Tornados came from behind to win it 6-3.

Curry split its two decisions to begin the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, opening with a 6-1 victory over Chatham before falling to Pitt.-Greensburg 10-3 in the nightcap. Curry junior starter Zachary Wensley tossed a four-hitter over 7.1 innings and struck out eight batters in game one. Sophomore Julian Jaume went 2-for-2 with a double, a single, three runs batted in, and one run scored. Freshman John Trevino finished 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored. Sophomore Brody Bonadio, freshman Abram King, and junior Jordan Cavanaugh picked up a three hits apiece for Pitt.-Greensburg as the Bobcats took the nightcap.

SUNY Cobleskill took to the road again on Saturday to split a twin bill with the host Cyclones of Centenary taking the first game by a score of 13-11 then losing in the nightcap 11-6 in games played on the turf at the Diamond of Dreams Complex. With the split the Fighting Tigers are now 7-4 overall on the season to date while the Cyclones are now 3-5 overall on the campaign. In the opener the Fighting Tigers took advantage of the long ball to move out to an 11-0 lead after three and a half innings on the strength of a pair of home runs by junior left fielder Jayson Maxwell and held on for the win. In the nightcap, the game was tied 4-4 after four innings of play when Centenary outscored the Fighting Tigers 7-1 in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach.

Millikin hosted the St. Norbert CollegeNights at the Workman Family Baseball Field for their 2020 regular season home opener. Adam Zuk would pick up his first win of the season on the mound for Millikin, allowing no runs on four hits, striking out eight in 7.0 innings pitched. St. Norbert would start Nick Klavekoske, who would earn a loss throwing 5.0 innings, allowing one runs on four hits with nine strikeouts on the day. Andrew Auton led the charge on offense against St. Norbert, going 1-2 on the day, driving in three runs on an RBI triple. Auton's triple would be the only extra-base hit in the game. Brent Beals added to the strength at the plate for the Big Blue, going 3-4 and scoring two of the seven runs in the game.

Anchored by a pitching staff that allowed just one run in 14 innings, Springfield swept Western New England in twin bill action at Archie Allen Field on Saturday. The Pride took game one, 4-1, and the evening cap, 4-0, to improve its record to 3-0, whereas the Golden Bears fall to 1-3 on the season. Junior Noah Bleakley appeared in his first start of the season for Springfield, and threw four strong innings. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out five in his sixth career win for the Pride. Sophomore Mitch Wright threw a complete game in game two, a two-hit effort in his first start of the season. He pitched to the minimum, inducing 12 ground ball outs and striking out four hitters.

Looking to start the Florida swing strong, Concordia Chicago took to the field against The Wheaton College Lyons. The Cougars lived up to their long earned nickname of the "Cardiac Cougars", by erasing a three run deficit and eventually walking off the Lyons on a throwing error by the pitcher the first win of the season 5-4. The win was the first of the career of first year head coach Kolin Conner.

Saint Vincent played its final game at the Russ Matt Tournament against Concordia (Minn.). The Bearcats defeated the Cobbers, 7-3. Justin Wright finished 3-4 from the box with two runs batted in and scoring once. TJ Dailey had the three-run blast in the fourth in which scored the winning run. Casey Jones went eight innings on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.

The Lewis & Clark Pioneers put up three runs in each of the first three innings to win 12-2 in Saturday's doubleheader finale against the George Fox Bruins. Zack Kon and Tylre Gannon had four RBIs apiece. Jordan Gonzalez picked up his first win on the mound this season. The Pios retired 12 of the final 14 Bruins batters. In the early game, Freshman Matt Sebolsky dropped a two-RBI single in left field to give the Bruins go-ahead runs it needed for the 11-9 win.

Freshman centerfielder Michael Schweyher had two hits, including a home run as Montclair State captured its second straight game, beating St. Joseph's (Brooklyn), 10-2 at the Ripken Experience on Saturday afternoon. Hayden Reyes drove in two runs while righthander Ben Levine pitched six solid innings as the Red Hawks moved to 5-4 on the season. MSU faces Cortland in a doubleheader on Sunday.

Farmingdale opened the 2020 season with a home doubleheader versus Keene State and won both games by one run. FSC earned a come-from-behind 4-3 win in game one before defeating the Owls, 1-0, in the second game of the doubleheader. FSC junior Joe Wolf (1-0) earned the victory after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings in relief in game one. Senior Joe Marino (1-0) earned the victory after striking out a career-high nine over five innings. Freshman Christian Esperon (Sv, 1) pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit and picked up his first career save.

Fredonia State Blue Devils won 19-8 and 10-7 in their doubleheader against the Lehman Lightning in Myrtle Beach. In game one, Domenic Monti, Tyler Phillips, and Pat Bigham each had three hits with Phillips and Bigham collecting four RBI each. Southpaw Kenneth Ynoa picked up the win in relief of starter Sam Cestra. Freshman right-hander Adam Goot earned his first collegiate win in the nightcap and Tyler Murphy picked up a save. Goot struck out two in 1 2/3 innings. Murphy fanned one in one inning of work.

Junior Jack Moore and senior James Robertson quieted the Mary Washington bats while the Emory offense cranked out another 27 runs as the Emory completed the sweep of Mary Washington at Chappell Park in Atlanta. Moore and Robertson surrendered a single run in a combined 14 innings on the mound, striking out a total of 13 batters compared to no walks as both hurlers recorded wins. Offensively, the Emory Eagles continued to rake, finishing the doubleheader with 27 runs on 26 hits and were aided by 16 walks. Senior Jacob Greene had a team-high five hits and five RBI across the twin bill. Emory, as a team, is now averaging 9.46 runs per game and 10.9 runs per game in wins.

Texas-Dallas kept its home record unblemished and polished off another three-game sweep of an American Southwest Conference opponent Saturday, toppling Howard Payne, 6-0 and 11-1. The sweep improved the Comets' (11-4 overall) ASC record to 8-1. Howard Payne fell to 7-10, 4-5 in ASC games. UTD got a seven-inning shutout from junior Carter Cochrane in Game 1, then rode the arm of freshman first-time starter Joshua Wood for 4.5 innings in an 11-1 "run rule" win in the series finale.

Will Peiffer used his arm and bat to deliver Ursinus a 6-1 victory over Beloit in the first of two Saturday contests for the Bears, who later fell by the same score to Illinois Wesleyan to settle for a split with their first spring break setback. Peiffer was dominant in his second start of the year, allowing only an unearned run across seven sparkling innings. He struck out seven and took a shutout into the sixth inning, when an error paved the way for the Buccaneers to score their only run.

Elmhurst upped its record to 3-0 on the season after sweeping both ends of a doubleheader from the Illinois Institute of Technology. The Bluejays took the opening game 17-7 before completing the sweep with a 6-2 win in game two.Elmhurst recorded 19 hits en route to handing IIT a 17-7 loss in game one of the doubleheader. The Bluejays scored four runs in the fourth and Jay Palmer pitched six strong innings to propel the Bluejays to the four-run victory in the late game.

Jacob Austin had a team-high five hits on the day as Methodist split the non-conference doubleheader against visiting Hanover,winning the first game 6-4 but dropping the second game, 3-1. In both games, the Monarchs had to attempt to recover from an early deficit. In Game 1, Methodist rallied from a 4-1, fourth-inning deficit. In the nightcap, the three runs scored by the Panthers in the first inning stood as the winning runs. Jacob Austin went 3-for-5 with a double and a stolen base in the win. In the second game, he scored the team's only run after going 2-for-4 with a triple. Hunter Barnes pitched 5.1 innings in relief for the win, striking out a career-high 10 batters while allowing just four hits. In Game 2, Tyler Brown, putting aside the first inning, struck out nine and pitched five innings of scoreless baseball.

Seniors Jacob Bartlett and Chase Counts each had three hits in the first game, and junior Ryan Clawson hit a three-run home run, while Counts added two hits and two RBIs in the second game, to lead Hampden-Sydney to an ODAC doubleheader sweep of Roanoke at Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark - Wurdeman Stadium. Senior Chase Mayberry earned the pitching win in the 7-2 opener with 10 strikeouts for the host Tigers (10-3, 2-0), while sophomore Trenton Tiller gained the mound triumph in the 3-2 nightcap against the visiting Maroons (7-7, 0-2). H-SC has now won seven-straight games and 10 of its last 11 games overall.

Eastern Nazarene wrapped up its trip to the Palmetto State
with a 14-13 narrow victory over Johnson & Wales.
Saturday's contest was an offensive showcase as the two
teams combined for 27 hits, including three home runs, to
go with the 27 runs.

King's College wrapped up a successful week in Florida with a 12-2 victory over Cornell College from The Chain O'Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, FL. The game was called in the seventh inning due to the RussMatt Tournament 10-run rule. The Monarchs (6-4) scored in five of the seven innings giving starter Jacob Lupas plenty of run support in his third excellent outing of the year. The junior kept the Rams (2-3) off balance in his six innings of work striking out four. Lupas improved to 3-0 on the mound this year with another six scoreless innings to give him 16.2 scoreless innings to begin the season. The lefty concludes a great week in the Florida sunshine picking up two wins in 12.2 innings of work with five strikeouts.

The University of Chicago captured both ends of a road doubleheader at Transylvania by scores of 5-2 and 15-10. A big performance from starting pitcher Sam Bennett highlighted the opening game. The sophomore right hander struck out eight batters while only allowing two runs on three hits over his seven innings. After Transylvania hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning, Bennett proceeded to strike out the next three batters to end the frame. Game two of the doubleheader was a much more offensive-minded affair – the two teams combined for 32 hits. Defense came back to bite the Pioneers as the home team committed six errors. 

Occidental escaped with a one-run victory for the second game in a row, winning at Whittier 5-4 in Game 2 of their three-game series this weekend. Antonio Andrade got the big hit, driving in Nolan Upchurch and Austin Twiss for the game-tying and go-ahead runs with a double in the top of the ninth inning.

Catholic opened its 2020 spring break trip at the Ripken Experience with an 8-3 win over New England College. Freshman Tucker Alch impressed again on the mound with his longest outing of the year, giving up three runs in eight innings. The Houston, Texas native scattered seven hits and struck out six batters in 89 pitches thrown for his third win of the season. Fellow Houston native Nolan Lundholm closed out the game, striking out two for his first save of the year.

Senior James Salta had a pair of hits, walked three times and drove in three runs to lead Plymouth State to an 8-4 win over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in a non-conference game at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic. Salta knocked in two with a first inning double, socked a solo shot to left center in the third and walked in each of his final three at bats to lead the Panthers’ offense. Freshman Ryan Conklin earned the win (1-0) in relief as the PSU bullpen threw 5.1 innings of scoreless ball. Plymouth State improves to 3-0 on its Florida trip and 3-1 on the year, while Coast Guard drops its season opener to fall to 0-1.

Solid pitching and timely hitting helped Covenant to a pair of wins over Averett to complete a three-game series sweep. The Scots took game one, 4-2, before capping the series with a 9-3 win in the finale. It is the second conference series sweep for Covenant (10-4, 6-0 USA South) this season. It's also the first time since 2014 that the Scots have registered two series sweeps in a season.
