D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eleventh season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the ninth Team of the Week of the 2022 season.

Games of April 4-10, 2022

C  Samuel Mullen, Jr., Hilbert

Mullen had a monster week to lead the Hawks to a 3-1 record with wins over Pitt-Bradford and La Roche. Mullen had three multi-hit games and finished the week with a .615 batting average (8-for13), .706 on base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage. He hit a pair of doubles and a home run while finishing with eight runs batted in, three runs scored and walked four times.

1B  Luke Barber, Gr., Otterbein

Barber had three hits in each game last week for the Cardinals and became Otterbein's all-time hits leader in final plate appearance of the week, securing base knock 218 to pass former All-American Ben Beachy. He batted .643 (9-for-13) with eight RBI and five runs scored.

2B  Alex Richter, Fr., Marietta

Richter had multiple hits in all four games last week and multiple RBI in three games. He went a combined 10-for-5 (.667) on the week.  He scored five runs and drove in seven. In addition to the offense, he played errorless defense at second base in 16 chances.

SS  Ryan McCarty, Sr., Penn St.-Abington

McCarty went 6-for-11 at the plate (.545) in a three-game series sweep against Lancaster Bible. All his hits went for extra-bases (three doubles, three home runs) as he slugged 1.638. he had nine RBI and and six runs scored.

3B  Henry Fisher, Jr., Southwestern (Texas)

Fisher hit .636 for the week (7-for-11) with a .909 slugging percentage, posting seven RBIs and six runs scored. Fisher had three doubles and one walk, helping lead Southwestern to three wins this weekend.

OF  Justin Costanzo, Jr., Widener

Costanzo batted 8-for-13 (.615) with four home runs, 11 RBIs, seven runs scored, three walks, a 1.538 slugging percentage, a .737 on-base percentage and a 2.275 OPS while leading Widener to a 4-0 week.

OF Dom Dilello, Sr., Ill. Wesleyan

Dilello led the Illinois Wesleyan University offense this week. For the week, he accumulated a .571 average (8-for-14), nine runs, a home run, five RBI, and a .786 slugging percentage.

OF  Brady Slinger, Sr., Hamilton

Slinger hit .611 (11-for-18) with eight RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles and a home run in a 3-1 week. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch twice. He has hit safely and driven in at least one run in six straight games. He handled 11 chances in the field without an error.

DH  Andrew Bradley, Jr., Earlham

Bradley enjoyed a bountiful week at the plate for the Quakers in HCAC play. In total, Bradley recorded 10 hits  in 16 at-bats (.625) with six home runs and 15 RBI on the week. The junior boasted a slugging percentage of 1.875 and hit two doubles. Five of his home runs came in a doubleheader against Defiance where he went 4-5 with four home runs in game number one.

DH  Jacob Matzat, Sr., Rochester

Matzat had a record-breaking week for Rochester as the Yellowjackets posted a 4-0 win-loss mark on the diamond. The senior DH batted .650 (13-for-20) with 10 extra base hits (four doubles, two triples and four home runs). He added 16 RBI, tens runs scored and had a slugging percentage of 1.650.

SP  Owen Boerema, Jr., Northwestern (Minn.)

Boerema pitched a complete game shutout in his only appearance this week. He gave up two hits and a walk in a win over Crown. He broke the school record by striking out 21 batters in the game, shattering the previous record of 17, and missed the NCAA Division III all time mark (22) by one.

SP  Nick Choate, Fr., Anna Maria

Choate was unbelievable on Sunday against Rivier University in his first career start, pitching five flawless innings and striking out five as the AMCATS delivered a combined perfect game. Earlier in the week, Choate was lights out against Albertus Magnus, pitching four innings of no-hit ball in relief and striking out nine Falcons for his first career win. For the week, the rookie went 2-0 with 14 strikeouts over nine innings and a 0.00 ERA.

SP  Gerald Terry, Jr., La Verne

Terry helped lift La Verne to a series win over California Lutheran with his efforts on the hill in an 8-0 win over the Kingsmen. Terry tossed eight frames of shutout baseball, scattering just two hits and walking one while fanning nine batters.

SP  Josh Wintroub, Augustana (Ill.)

Wintroub pitched a seven inning no-hitter in the team's 10-0 win over Cornell. Just four base runners reach, all on walks as Wintroub struckout 14.

RP  Anthony Clerici, So., Lewis & Clark

Clerici closed out three victories to set the program record for saves in a single-season (seven) during a 4-2 week for Lewis & Clark College. The sophomore closer posted two saves and allowed just one single and one walk in 5.1 innings. Ten of his 16 outs on the week came by way of the strikeout. On the week, Clerici pitched multiple innings in all three outings, struck out at least three in all three appearances and stranded all three runners he inherited.

RP  Grayson Thurman, Sr., Lynchburg

Thurman pitched in three hitless outings this week, including his ODAC-best ninth save.  He had one save and in his 4/2 innings walked just one batter with nine strikeouts.
