D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its eleventh season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the final Team of the Week of the 2022 season.

Games of May 2-8, 2022

C  Jacob Ference, Jr., Salisbury

Ference pounded out three extra-base hits, including two home runs, and drove in six runs in the Sea Gulls' 14-2 win at DeSales. Ference had just two XBHs in his first 16 games of the season; over his past three games he has notched 10 RBIs after having just four to his name over his first 14 games.

1B  Damen Castillo, Sr., Benedictine

Castillo hit .500 for the weekend, hitting safely in all four contests, all Benedictine wins. He logged three multi-hit contests and finished 9-for-18. Castillo homered twice, drove home six, doubled twice and scored four times. He slugged .944 and had a perfect weekend in the field.

2B  Andrew Michalski, Sr., Cortland

Michalski batted .462 (6-for-13) with seven RBI and five runs in a three-game sweep of New Paltz. He also handled seven chances at second base (three putouts, four assists) without an error.

SS  Tyler Chumita, Sr., Wooster

Chumita surpassed 70 RBI on the year with 13-RBI week for the Fighting Scots. Chumita capped his week with a 3-for-4 performance with five RBI and three runs scored in what turned into a must-win game for Wooster to make the NCAC Tournament. Chumita's RBI count marked the most in a season for a Wooster player since 1997. He had at least one RBI in all six games last week and had three multi-RBI efforts.

3B  Christian Seariac, Gr., Suffolk

Seariac slashed .556./600./1.222 on the week. Three of his five hits were for extra bases (double, triple, home run). He scored three and drove in eight.

OF  Danny Alvarez, Sr., Denison

Alvarez hit .667 with 10 hits in 15 at-bats, 10 runs scored, seven RBI, five doubles and five walks. Also had a .750 on base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

OF  Zack Brook, So., Cabrini

Brook helped the Cavaliers to a perfect 4-0 week as he went 10-for-19 (.526) from the plate, including three home runs. The DII transfer plated 11, including a game high six in the nightcap of AEC doubleheader versus the Centenary Cyclones and scored seven runs. Brook also put in a perfect innings worth of work on the mound, with no runs, hits, error or walks and one strikeout, in a victory at Centenary.

OF  Aaron Simmons, Sr., UW-Stevens Point

Simmons hit .593 and slugged 1.444 to lead UW-Stevens Point to a 7-1 record that locked up the No. 2 seed in the WIAC Tournament. He belted six home runs to move into a tie for second in school history. He also hit his 16th career triple on May 6, to tie for the all-time WIAC career lead in the category. Simmons had 15 RBI and scored 13 runs over the eight games and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases. He drew eight walks on the week, including four intentional passes.

DH  Dylan Habeeb, Sr., William Paterson

Habeeb led William Paterson as the only undefeated team in NJAC Tournament after two rounds after two straight wins against ranked teams. he batted .750 (6-for-8), scoring four runs with six RBI. He hit two home runs and a double.

SP   Sayers Collins, Jr., East Texas Baptist

Collins blanked Mary Hardin-Baylor 10-0 in eight innings to help the Tigers gain a trip to the ASC Baseball Championship Gold Bracket Finals. He fanned seven batters with a pair of walks and only one hit allowed in the complete game.

SP  Tom Kretzler, Sr., Brockport

Kretzler recorded his second complete-game shutout of the season on Saturday when he picked up his seventh win of the season in a 1-0 victory over Plattsburgh. In the game, Kretzlers struck out a total of nine batters for an 11.57 K/9 while only allowing a total of three hits against the Cardinals.

SP  Caleb Reyes, Sr., Occidental

Reyes earned the win for the Tigers on the hill in game two of the SCIAC series with California Lutheran to complete the 6-1 victory. Reyes threw a complete game (9 innings), one-hitter allowing just one unearned run while striking out six batters and walking two.

SP  Andrew Sears, So., Rhode Island College

Sears allowed just three hits and striking out nine in a complete game effort to earn his eight win (8-1) of the season, as the Anchormen bested Plymouth State, 6-0.

RP  Jackson Bahn, So., Benedictine

Bahn struck out seven in three hitless and scoreless innings of relief to earn a win in the opener against Rockford.

RP  Andrew Roman, Sr., Salve Regina

Roman earned a win and a save in the Seahawks' sweep over nationally-ranked Endicott to secure the CCC Regular-Season Championship for Salve. In game one, Roman entered the game in the ninth inning with the score tied 2-2. He struck out all three batters he faced, setting the stage for the Seahawks to walk off with the win. In game two, he entered the ninth with one out and the tying run on-base. He induced two harmless flyouts against two Gulls who had homered earlier in the day to slam the door, earn the save, and clinch the No. 1 seed.
