D3baseball.com Team of the Week

The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in its third season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors. This is the sixth Team of the Week of the 2014 season.

Games of March 17-23, 2014

C  Jordan Swisher, Jr., Case Western Reserve

Swisher batted .625 (5-for-8) with three doubles. He drove in five runs and scored three times. Swisher played errorless defense for the Spartans.

1B  Brad Rush, Sr., St. John Fisher

Rush went 7-for-14 (.500) on the week with four doubles, four RBI, and a run scored. The senior cleanup hitter had a .632 OBP and .786 slugging percentage to help lead his team to a 4-0 week. On Sunday, Rush hit a 2-out, bases-clearing double that scored three runs and proved to be the game-winning hit to extend Fisher's winning streak to 11 straight games.

2B  Jared Kahn, Sr. Emory

Kahn was 8-for-13 (.615) for the Eagles as they swept a three game series with DePauw. He scored seven runs, with a single RBI. Kahn was 3-for-4 in stolen bases.

SS  Nick Briatico, Sr., Western Conn. St.

In five appearances for Western Connecticut, Briatico batted .556 (10-for-18) with four extra base hits and four runs batted in. The senior shortstop from Bristol, Conn. registered two doubles and two triples to post a .889 slugging percentage.

3B  Cody Wiktorski, So., St. John Fisher

Wiktorski went 8-for-14 (.571) over the week with five RBI, five runs scored, and a .600 OBP. He recorded his first two career home runs, and came just a single shy of the cycle against Haverford on Saturday. Wiktorski finished the week with a 1.214 slugging percentage.

OF  Tom Fairbanks, Sr., Wis.-Superior

Fairbanks led the Yellowjackets to a 5-2 week, batting .621 (18-for-29). He had 11 extra base hits (two doubles, six triples, and three home runs). Fairbanks scored ten times with 20 RBI.

OF  Scott Windler, Sr., Franklin

Windler batted .471 (8-of-17) in leading Franklin to a 3-1 record last week. The center fielder scored seven runs and five of his eight hits went for extra bases. He hit two home runs, including a game-tying two-run home run with two outs in the ninth inning against Wabash on Tuesday.

OF  Colin McCarthy, Jr. Johns Hopkins

McCarthy was outstanding at the plate to help Johns Hopkins capture five wins in Florida. He batted .611 with an .833 OBP in five games, racking up 10 runs, six RBIs.

DH   Robbie Rushing, Sr., Central (Iowa)

Rushing finished a single shy of a cycle in the win over Hamline. For the week he batted .556 (10-for-18) with five runs scored and seven RBI  as he helped Central close out the Tucson Invitational Games with a 7-1 record.

SP  Ben Glischinski, So., Ohio Northern

Glischinski took a no-hitter into the 7th inning, striking out a career-high eight batters in 6-2 win over Wilmington. Earlier in the week he firing two hitless innings in an 1-0 win over Oberlin, recorded first career save. He gave up one hit and three walks in 9.0 innings pitched this week.

SP  Cody Moore, Sr., Averett

In a USA South conference game, Moore has a career-high 13 strikeouts with no walks in a complete-game four-hit shutout of N.C. Wesleyan.

SP  Brett Wagner, So., Moravian

Wagner tossed the first shutout of his career as he scattered two hits in the Greyhounds' 10-0 win over Drew. He added three strikeouts while walking no one in the game.

RP  Cody Walker, So., Linfield

Walker earned his first collegiate victory and save in the same series, helping second-ranked Linfield to a couple victories against Whitworth. He tallied two strikeouts in one inning of relief in a 4-2 win, and the following afternoon threw 10 of 11 pitches for strikes, recording two strikeouts, over 1.1 scoreless relief innings as the Wildcats edged the Pirates 2-1 in 12 innings.
