For the first time the top three teams in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 remained the same with Shenandoah, Endicott and Baldwin Wallace holding their positions. Lower in the Top 25, there is a shakeup with undefeated Benedictine and Kalamazoo showing up for the first time.
Benedictine (7-0) and Kalamazoo (8-0) stayed perfect through games on Saturday. Benedictine did it with a 6-2 win over Hope and Kalamazoo swept a pail in Jacksonville, Illinois. Other teams who have played a minimum of five games and are still without a loss include No. 2 Endicott (6-0), Johnston and Wales (5-0) and Whitworth (10-0).
St. Joseph's (Conn.) split with Keene State and earned the program's first victory in the process. Elsewhere it was big numbers for the offenses as Kalamazoo posted a 28 run total and three other teams posted 24 runs in one game. Utica was one of those teams who added 16 in another for a 40 run day in a doubleheader sweep of Yeshiva.
Kalamazoo dominated their opener with shutout pitching and hots bats. East Texas Baptist did the same in a 18-0 whitewashing of Sul Ross State as did Hamline with a 15-0 win over Martin Luther as part of a sweep in Kansas. Methodist joined the parade with a 18-0 win over Penn State Abington.
It surprises nobody that the top of the Ohio Athletic Conference dominates the top of Region 7. Baldwin Wallace and Marietta are loaded so let the games begin. Two conferences have clear favorites - Denison in the NCAC and Washington & Jefferson in the PAC while the MIAA is shaping up to be a two team race with Adrian and Kalamazoo.
