The Team of the Week is D3baseball.com's weekly honor roll, in
its second season of recognizing the top performers at each of nine
positions from the previous week. Players are selected from
nominations from their school's sports information directors. This
is the fifth Team of the Week of the 2013 season.
Through games of March 11-17, 2013
C Jake Mailman, So., Wentworth
Mailman helped the Leopards to a 6-2 week by batting .655
(19-for-29) with five doubles, a triple, nine runs scored, and 15
RBI to go along with an on-base percentage of .697 and a slugging
percentage of .897. Mailman was 8-for-9 with seven RBI in a
doubleheader sweep of Colby-Sawyer and had six multiple-hit
games.
1B Ely Gallego, Fr., Sul Ross St.
Gallego went 7-for-12 (.583) with four doubles and 12 RBIs to fuel
a three-game series road sweep of Southwestern (Texas). Gallego
also scored four runs and walked once. He had at least two hits,
including a double, three RBI and one run scored in each game.
2B Corey Wallace, Jr., Guilford
Wallace continued his torrid hitting by batting .625 (10-for-16)
with three homers in Guilford's 2-2 week. He had multiple hits in
all four contests. Wallace scored four times and had five RBI.
SS Billy Steel, Jr., Christopher
Newport
Steel, the USA South Player of the Week, reached base 15 times in
18 plate appearances. He hit a sterling .700 (7-for-10) and adding
five walks and three hit-by-pitch. He blasted a two-run home run
against Piedmont and finished the week with three RBI and four runs
scored.
3B Brad Kremer, Jr., Defiance
Kremer, The HCAC Player of the Week, led the Jackets to a 4-3
record down in Florida. The junior infielder finished the week
6-for-14 (.429) at the plate. Kremer scored two runs with three
doubles, seven RBI, and a stolen base, while finishing the week
with an on-base percentage of .600 and a slugging percentage of
.643.
OF Sean Connole, Sr., Washington College
Connole, the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, went
14-for-23 (.609) from the plate in five game for the Shoremen this
week with three stolen bases. He led the team in hits, RBI (9) and
total bases (18). The senior tied for the team lead in doubles (2),
triples (1), and runs scored (6).
OF Kramer Lindell, Jr., Linfield
Lindell was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI
in game three as 11th-ranked Linfield completed its second
conference sweep of the year. For the weekend, he registered at
least one hit in every game for a .700 (7-for-10) average, scored a
team-high six runs, and drew three walks. He stole two bases and
posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with nine chances in center
field.
OF Alex Kazmierski, Webster
Kazmierski, the SLIAC Player of the Week, hit .545 (6-for-11) for
the week with a .909 slugging percentage. He started the week
2-for-3 with a three-run home run to dead center field in a 6-5
victory over TCNJ. He then went 1-for-3 with a walk and one stolen
base in a 5-0 win versus #9 Saint Joseph's (Me.). Kazmierski
finished the week with a 3-for-5 effort, including a double, one
RBI and one run scored as the Gorloks defeated #25 Augustana.
DH Mitchell Keeler, Randolph-Macon
Keeler, the ODAC Player of the Week, hit for the cycle in which he
accounted for 10 of Randolph-Macon's 13 runs scored in a 13-11 win
over Hampden-Sydney. Keeler went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and
six runs batted in. Keeler, who did not play in Randolph-Macon's
first nine games, has had three straight multi-hit outings.
SP Eric Hungerford, So., Gettysburg
The Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week, Hungerford was
nearly perfect in his two appearances during the team's spring
break trip to Florida. In over 13 innings pitched, he allowed a
mere three hits and one walk while striking out 15. In a 4-2,
11-inning win over Rockford, Hungerford threw the final six innings
and retired 18 of the 19 batters he faced, yielding only a walk
while making a career-high 10 strikeouts. The right-hander followed
up with his first career shutout, tossing a seven-inning
three-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Lawrence in which he struck out
five and walked none.
SP Anthony Trevino, Jr., Sul Ross St.
Anthony Trevino threw a no-hitter on the road against
Southwestern. He struck out three batters in the 12-0, eight-inning
victory. Trevino issued just two walks, both in the last
inning.
SP Nick Rossmiller, Sr., Thiel
Rossmiller threw the first perfect game in Thiel history, in the
Tomcats' 14-0 win over Hiram on Friday. Rossmiller needed just 106
pitches to set the Terriers down in order, 82 of which were for
strikes.
RP Cody Petre, Jr., Cortland St.
Petre did not allow a hit or run in a combined six innings over
three relief appearances. He earned a save with three innings
versus Franklin & Marshall, striking out four and walking two.
He threw two perfect innings with one strikeout in a loss to Rowan
and one perfect inning with a strikeout in a win over Webster.
